Clear aligners have transformed orthodontic treatment for adults. They offer an effective, discreet, and comfortable way to straighten teeth — without the brackets and wires of conventional braces.
This practice offers advanced, clear aligner therapy for adult patients, including the management of cases that would previously have required fixed braces. Using the latest aligner systems and digital planning technology, treatment is designed to be as precise and efficient as possible.
Lusk Orthodontics is led by founder and Clinical Director Dr Erfan Salloum, who is the only orthodontist in Ireland to have passed the rigorous assessment process of the European Board of Aligner Orthodontics (EBAO).
EBAO certification is a formal, peer-assessed standard of excellence in clear aligner therapy. Achieving it requires demonstrating — through the submission and examination of treated cases, clinical knowledge, and peer review — that the clinician’s aligner outcomes meet the highest European standards of quality. It is an evidence-based assessment of what a clinician actually delivers for patients, not a training course or a manufacturer certification. The fact that Dr Salloum is the only orthodontist in Ireland to hold this status means that patients at Lusk Orthodontics are receiving clear aligner treatment from Ireland’s most formally assessed aligner specialist.
Clear aligners are a series of custom-made, transparent trays that fit snugly over your teeth. Each aligner applies carefully controlled forces that gradually move the teeth through a series of incremental stages. You progress through the series — typically changing aligners every one to two weeks — until the planned tooth positions are reached.
Treatment is planned digitally using 3D scans of your teeth. Before you begin, you will be shown a simulation of how your teeth will move and what the expected outcome looks like.
For many adults, clear aligners are the preferred treatment option for several reasons.
Discretion. The aligners are virtually invisible when worn. Most people will not notice you are undergoing orthodontic treatment.
Removability. Aligners are removed for eating and drinking, which means no dietary restrictions and easier maintenance of oral hygiene — something that is particularly important for adults who may have dental restorations or more complex gum care needs.
Comfort. Without metal brackets or wires, there is no risk of soft tissue irritation. Many patients find aligners significantly more comfortable than fixed appliances.
Fewer appointments. Clear aligner treatment typically involves less frequent appointments than fixed braces, which suits busy adult lifestyles.
Predictable outcomes. Digital treatment planning allows precise staging of tooth movements, and the final result can be visualised before treatment begins.
Modern aligner systems are capable of managing a wide range of orthodontic problems, including:
Advanced aligner therapy — using auxiliaries such as attachments, interproximal reduction, and precision bite ramps — extends the range of treatable cases significantly. Where a case falls outside the scope of aligners alone, fixed braces or a combination approach may be recommended.

Aligners must be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day to achieve the planned tooth movements. Compliance is the single biggest factor in treatment success.
Aligners should be removed for eating and for any drink other than plain water. This protects both the aligners and your teeth.
