At Lusk Orthodontics, we believe patients should clearly understand the cost of orthodontic treatment before starting.

Orthodontic treatment is a significant investment in long-term dental health, facial aesthetics, and confidence. Our goal is to provide the highest standard of specialist orthodontic care by combining clinical expertise, advanced digital technology, and high-quality orthodontic appliances.

Because of the level of expertise, time, and technology involved in delivering this standard of care, we cannot compete on price with some lower-cost orthodontic providers. Our fees reflect the level of specialist training, precision treatment planning, and individualised care that each patient receives.

We are also proud to have patients travelling from across Ireland to seek treatment at Lusk Orthodontics, particularly for more advanced and specialised orthodontic treatments such as lingual braces, skeletal anchorage techniques, and complex orthodontic care.

If orthodontic treatment appears appropriate, we can then arrange a detailed orthodontic consultation, where full diagnostic records are taken, and a comprehensive treatment plan is prepared.

How Orthodontic Treatment Fees Are Calculated

The cost of orthodontic treatment depends primarily on two factors.

1. Complexity of the orthodontic problem
   Some cases require simple tooth alignment, while others involve bite correction, impacted teeth, or skeletal discrepancies.
2. Type of orthodontic appliance used
   Different treatment systems require different levels of laboratory work, digital planning, and clinical time.

Common treatment options include:

• Fixed metal braces.
• Ceramic (clear) braces.
• Clear aligners.
• Lingual braces (hidden braces placed behind the teeth).
• Functional appliances.
• Skeletal anchorage systems (TADs).
• MARPE skeletal expansion appliances.

To ensure fairness and consistency, Lusk Orthodontics uses internationally recognised orthodontic scoring systems.

Orthodontic Indices Used

We assess case complexity using internationally recognised orthodontic indices:

• IOTN – Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need.
• ICON – Index of Complexity, Outcome and Need.

These scoring systems are also used by public healthcare systems such as the NHS and HSE to assess orthodontic treatment need and complexity.

In simple terms:

• Lower scores usually indicate easier cases with shorter treatment times.
• Higher scores indicate more complex orthodontic problems requiring longer treatment and more advanced orthodontic mechanics.

What Is Included in Orthodontic Treatment

All comprehensive orthodontic treatments at Lusk Orthodontics include:

• Fixed bonded retainers are placed behind the teeth.
• Three sets of removable retainers (one active set and two spare sets).
• All routine orthodontic appointments.
• Emergency visits during treatment, if required.
• Monitoring and adjustment visits throughout treatment.

We aim to ensure long-term stability and support after orthodontic treatment is completed.

Additional Orthodontic Costs (If Required)

Some advanced orthodontic treatments may involve additional laboratory or appliance costs.

• MARPE or CAD-CAM Skeletal Anchorage Appliances
  These custom appliances are individually designed for each patient, and laboratory costs vary depending on the complexity of the case.
  Any additional cost will be discussed clearly during your consultation if required.
• Replacement Retainers
  For patients not originally treated at Lusk Orthodontics:
  Removable retainers (3 sets for both arches) – €600
  Bonded fixed metal retainer – €200 per arch
• Metal Free (Eztain) Retainers
  Upgrade for Lusk Orthodontics patients – €300 per arch
  Replacement for non-Lusk Orthodontics patients – €450 per arch
