During this period, the jaws are still growing, the permanent teeth are erupting into position, and the body is at a stage of development where both dental and skeletal problems can often be addressed more efficiently and with greater long-term stability than at any other time of life.
At Lusk Orthodontics, we provide specialist orthodontic care for adolescent patients from the straightforward to the complex using treatments that are designed around this unique stage of development. Whether your teenager needs teeth straightening, jaw guidance, expansion, or airway-focused care, we have the expertise to plan and deliver treatment to the highest standard.
Adolescence offers a window that does not remain open forever. As growth continues, certain types of treatment become progressively more difficult, less effective, or require surgical intervention to achieve what could have been accomplished non-surgically in a growing patient. At the same time, treating too early before the permanent teeth have erupted or before growth is sufficiently advanced can mean treatment needs to be repeated.
Getting the timing right is one of the most important aspects of adolescent orthodontic care. An assessment during the early teenage years allows a specialist orthodontist to identify the ideal point to intervene, to monitor those cases where early treatment is not yet indicated, and to avoid missed opportunities where treatment in the growth window would have made a lasting difference.

At Lusk Orthodontics, our specialist orthodontist Dr Erfan Salloum is one of the most qualified and highly regarded orthodontists in Ireland — and this expertise extends fully to the care of adolescent patients, where accurate diagnosis and well-timed treatment planning are especially critical.
Dr Salloum is Double Board Certified — holding both the European Board of Orthodontics (EBO) and the European Board of Aligner Orthodontics (EBAO) — and is an active member of both the European Society of Lingual Orthodontics (ESLO) and the World Society of Lingual Orthodontics (WSLO). He is the only orthodontist in Ireland to hold all of these distinctions simultaneously. What do these mean for your teenager?
European Board of Orthodontics (EBO) — Dr Salloum is one of only three orthodontists in Ireland to hold EBO certification. This is the highest formal standard of specialist orthodontic competence in Europe, awarded only after passing a demanding multi-stage examination in which real treated cases — including complex adolescent and growth cases — are submitted and independently assessed by a panel of European examiners. It is an assessment of actual clinical quality, not a course or a purchased credential.
Every adolescent patient at Lusk Orthodontics begins with a thorough specialist assessment, including a full clinical examination, appropriate radiographs, and photographs. Treatment timing, options, and likely outcomes are explained clearly to both the patient and their parents. Where treatment is not yet indicated, we provide a monitoring plan and advise on the ideal time to return.
Dr Erfan Salloum is the founder and lead orthodontist at Lusk Orthodontics. Widely recognised as one of the most highly qualified orthodontists in Ireland, he specialises in complex orthodontic care, clear aligners,…
