Lingual braces use the same principle as conventional fixed braces — brackets bonded to the teeth with a wire running through them — but positioned on the inside surface of each tooth. Because they face inward rather than outward, they are not visible when you smile, speak, or laugh.
The brackets used in lingual orthodontics are custom-made for each patient using digital impressions and precision manufacturing. This level of customisation is what allows lingual braces to achieve accurate, complex tooth movements from the inside of the arch.
Both lingual and labial (front-surface) fixed braces are highly effective orthodontic tools. The key differences from a patient’s perspective are:

A full clinical assessment is carried out to determine whether lingual braces are the right treatment for your case.
2. Digital Records and Custom Manufacturing
Highly detailed impressions or digital scans of your teeth are taken. These are used to custom-fabricate your lingual brackets and initial wires to a precise prescription for your individual tooth anatomy and planned movements.
3. Fitting
Lingual brackets are bonded to the inner surface of your teeth in a single appointment. Initial discomfort and a short adjustment period for speech are normal.
